Burley Lions Club,

I would like to thank the Lions who helped at the Special Olympics Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes Screening October 16, 2005 at Boise High School. The Lions made this year an extremely successful event.

SUMMARY OF THE ATHELETES SERVED

  • Total Special Olympics Athletes who completed the screening: 140
  • Number of Athletes receiving new prescription glasses: 14
  • Number of Athletes who were referred for additional care: 15

Of these 15 who were referred for addition care, the following diagnoses have been reported:

  • Coloboma involving both retinal choroidal area and optic nerve head
  • Subretinal hemorrhages
  • Bear Tracks
  • Stargardt’s Dystrophy
  • Elevated Toxocara Granuloma
  • Cataracts
  • Glaucoma

SUMMARY OF EYEWEAR PROVIDED TO SPECIAL OLYMPIC ATHLETES:

  • Number of sport frames provided with prescription lenses: 2
  • Number of sport frames provided with plano lenses: 10
  • Number of nonprescription sun glasses: 97

Again, I would like to thank everyone for their support of this event. I am in the beginning stages of coordinating this event for the next year, and would appreciate any help or comments.
