Frequently Asked Questions
(with questionable answers)

1. Do all members of TEAMS have to show up to pick up the race packet?
Answer: YES! Unless team members bring a notorized signature on our waiver & release form for those missing team members, all team members must be present and sign the waiver and release form before the race packet will be released to the team.

2. What are some details on Transition 1 and Transition 2 (T1 and T2)?
The Spudman hosts two transition areas. While your start, bike-to-run (or T2), and finish will all take place at Riverfront Park, your swim-to-bike transition, or T1, will take place about a mile north-west of Riverfront Park at Scholar Park. To get to the swim-to-bike transition by car, exit Riverfront Park and turn northwest onto highway 81. Take your next right onto highway 30, and after half a mile you will see Scholar Park, a grassy area to your right, just before highway 30 crosses over the Snake River.

Your T2 transition at Riverfront Park will be on the golf course grass this year. Each individual will select their own spot where you will place your T2 transition gear and rack your own bike on this spot. Spots will be available for selection after 9:00 PM on Friday night to allow for complete transition area setup. Bike and personal belongings will remain were you place them, and would encourage you to collect their gear as soon as possible after their race to allow Lions club to start the cleanup process. Helpers will be at the end of bike course to help competitors off their bike, but competitors will be responsible for racking their bikes at their T2 transition spot.

You can drop of your bike and transition gear on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the swim-to-bike transition area in Scholar Park. You can also drop off your bike Saturday morning from 5:30 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. However, let’s talk about why you want to drop your bike off on Friday. In addition to getting an awesome transition spot, you’ll be able to save yourself the additional stress from trying to rack your bike race morning. There will be security watching your bikes all night, and matching athletes’ race numbers to the number on the bike before the bike can leave transition.

There will NOT be parking at the park or east side of the highway during bike drop off. All parking will be across the street on the west side of the highway at the baseball fields. Any non-participants will NOT be allowed in the transition area even to place gear and bikes. Again please pick up your registration packets PRIOR to leaving your bikes at the transition area as you will need your race number to enter the area and it will need to be on their bike when you leave with it.

As you setup your transition area, please note that ALL participants will need to bag their gear and take it with them to the GEAR BAG DROP AREA by the exit of the swim/bike transition area. Any gear left in the park WILL NOT be placed in any bags, but will be cleaned up and brought to the “lost and found” at the race start/finish area. This transition area will be cleaned up as soon as the last racers come through the area, well before the race is finished.

Also, for those of you participating in the team relay, all teams will have a special team transition area where they will need to change their chips.

3. Where do we exchange the ankle timing chips if we are a team?
Answer: Each team will get one timing chip that is worn around the ankle. The chip is exchanged, like a "baton" INSIDE the transition area. The person taking over can reach down and remove the chip from the teammate and put it on their own ankle and then take off. :-)

4. Can we camp again this year, where we camped last year, in the park across the street from the swim to bike transition area?
Answer: I have been told that all the same camping spots that people used last year, will be available this year. If you are bringing an RV there are at least 2 new options this year, that we didn't have last year. Check out the accomodations link for the new spots.

5. Can we sleep in our cars in the parking lot near T1?
Answer: As far as I know, this is fine.

6. What is the current water temperature?
Typically 69-71 degrees.

7. Where exactly do we check in?
Answer: If you can find the Burley Golf Course, you can find the check-in. It is not at or in the club house, but nearby. The address of the Burley Golf Course is 131 E. Highway 81, Burley, ID 83318. If you punch in that address at http://maps.google.com you can probably get some decent driving directions.

8. What are the penalties for drafting and other rule infractions?
Answer: 1st offense, 2 minute time penalty added to your time.
2nd offense: 4 minute penalty added to your time
3rd offense: Automatic Disqualification

9. Can I wear an MP3 player, Ipod, or similar device during the race?
Answer: No.

10. I am not able to participate in this years race. Can my friend take my spot?
Answer: No.

11. Will there be aid/water stations along the bike and run routes? If so, how far apart will they be?
Answer: There are no aid stations on the bike route. People are expected to carry their own food and fluid on the bike. There are aid stations with water on the run at miles 1, 3, and 5. There is also a water aid station at the beginning of the run at mile zero. We do not offer "sports drinks" at the aid stations, just water.

12. Will you have the mileage marked on the run course? If so is it ascending or descending?
Answer: Yes. They will be in ascending order.

13. If we set up bikes in T1 on Friday night, will T1 be open Saturday morning for clothes, glasses (for those of us who are vision impaired), etc. as we come out of the swim, or will we need to put all of that out with our bikes on Friday night?
Answer: T-1 will still be accessible to you on Saturday morning before the race to do as you wish.

14. As I understand it we set up for the run in T2 Saturday morning. Is that correct?
Answer: That is correct. In 2006 you will BAG your running gear rather than place it in the open on painted numbers on the ground. (see question #2 above)

15. What if I absolutely cannot make it to the race until Saturday morning? Can I still pick up my registration packet and drop off my bike in T-1 on Saturday morning?
Answer: Although I would not recommend this the answer is yes.

16. Do we know how many waves there will be and what their groupings will look like and their start order?
Answer: This is posted a few days before race day on the race information page.

17. I was wondering if extra t-shirts will be availalble, and if so, at what cost, and in what sizes? I am interested in purchasing several.
Answer: There will be a limited number of extra T-shirts, but we won't know how many and what sizes until the runners bags are stuffed Tuesday night and we give out shirts to designated volunteeres. The price will be $12 per shirt. We will also have white or tan Triathlon caps available for $12 each. There should be at least 3 dozen of each cap available after we fill the runners orders on the caps.

On the T-shirts, we have tried to limit our order size to the runners and local volunteers. We haven't ordered a great deal of extras in the past because of the cost to the club and the limited demand for purchase. There will be shirts from 2 or 3 previous Spudman Triathlons available for sale after the race starts. These usually go for a discounted price.

18. Can we ride our bike and run without shirts on? ... or are shirts required?
Answer: As long as the bib number is pinned to the flesh of your chest it is no problem.
